What is Scratching the Surface?

Scratching the Surface is a new writing night in which we showcase the work of emerging writers, actors and directors.

Each unique night provides a platform for up and coming artists and an engrossing production for the audience.

We strongly believe that quality is not dependent on big budgets, and our past new writing nights have proven that professional theatre can be made with collaboration, commitment and a lot of enjoyment.

How to apply:

We hold open calls for writers, directors and actors 2 or 3 times a year. We are currently not open for submissions, but join our mailing list to be the first to hear updates on applications.

During to Covid-19, we moved these performances online, and you can watch our previous lockdown productions on our Facebook page

Since 2020 we have been producing Scratching the Surface in association with

More information

Please be aware that Scratching the Surface is a voluntary project. All proceeds go towards funding the future work of The UnDisposables. This allows us to continue to create opportunities for emerging creatives in the arts.

Because of this, rehearsals will always be scheduled around participant's day jobs and other paid commitments. On the occasions where we do receive funding, we will include any fees or expenses offered in the call out.

By taking part, you are not only helping to create new opportunities in the arts, but you'll also be meeting and working with a group of like-minded creatives, all the while challenging yourself to try something new.
