Scratching the Surface is BACK at Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre Pub this Summer AND Autumn:

The concept of Scratching the Surface is to provide a platform for new writing and emerging artists. We strongly believe that quality is not dependent on big budgets, and our past (sold out!) new writing nights have proven that professional theatre can be made with collaboration, commitment, and a lot of enjoyment.

ABOUT THE EVENTS

3rd August 2019 - Scratching the Surface

A good-old Scratching the Surface, bringing together a variety of contrasting yet complimentary scenes into a one-off production, celebrating new writing and emerging artists. A loose theme will be picked based on the successful scenes, but we invite writers to submit anything and everything!

19th October 2019 – Absurding the Surface

A night of the absurd, surreal and strange, rolled into one spooky Halloween sensation. We invite writers to submit anything which they feel fits this theme, if you consider it absurd, then we want to read it!

We are looking for between 6-8 pieces by different writers for each night (can be extracts from longer plays, monologues or short plays), no longer than 10 minutes each and including up to 4 characters/actors.

Scratching the Surface is a place for growth, learning and professional experience. It’s also a great space to meet and work with like-minded creatives!
